Terms of Use & End User License Agreement

Welcome to thestart. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.

1. Who can use thestart

You must be at least 18 years old to use thestart. By using the app you represent that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Your account

You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping it secure. You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Edit → Delete Account, which removes your profile, matches, connections, messages, and photos from our systems.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior

thestart has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You agree that you will NOT, through your profile, your conversations with your AI confidant, or your messages to other people:

harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate anyone;
post or send content that is hateful, sexually explicit, violent, harmful, or otherwise objectionable;
impersonate any person or misrepresent your age or identity;
solicit money, promote commercial activity, or send spam;
share content that is illegal or that you do not have the right to share;
attempt to contact, exploit, or endanger minors.

Content that violates these rules may be removed and the responsible account may be suspended or terminated without notice. We aim to act on reports of objectionable content and remove the content or eject the user within 24 hours.

4. Reporting and blocking

Every connection lets you report objectionable content and block the other person. Reported content is reviewed and acted on. Blocking a person immediately removes them from your experience.

5. Content and conduct

You are solely responsible for the content you provide and your interactions with others. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user. Always use good judgment and prioritize your safety when meeting anyone in person.

6. The AI confidant

thestart uses AI to interview you, build your profile, and generate compatibility briefs. AI-generated content can be imperfect or inaccurate. Briefs are aids to help you decide whom to meet — they are not guarantees of compatibility, safety, or outcomes.

7. No warranty; limitation of liability

thestart is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app or your interactions with other users.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including the zero-tolerance policy in Section 3.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
